Cattle.  Just do it.

We have a new Jersey calf. Her name is Brownie. She's the same age as the Murray Greys.

Our future meat producers (2 Feb 2005)
Here are our Murray Grey heifer calves. We'll eventually eat or sell their children. They are two weeks old.

Lazy Spring Days (24 September 2004)

Here's Lady having some quiet time.

We now have cows (24 May 2004).
We bought two calves about 5 weeks old and just weaned. They are a Friesian boy (steer) and a Jersey/Friesian girl (heifer). The boy will have a tight rubber ring placed around his testicles in a week or so by the sellers and that will be the end of his breeding days. The girl will become our house cow for milk supplies in about two years. One year growing, and then about 9 months pregnant with her first calf. About that time the steer will be butchered to supply our first home grown beef.

Our first cows
Their names are currently Lady (in the foreground) and Patch (in the yard).
